Itinerary:
Monday
Depart Leyland at 10.00am for our journey to Irvine in Scotland with a suitable lunch stop en-route. Arrive at the Riverside Lodge Hotel to a warm Scottish welcome with tea/coffee and shortbread while your case is taken to your room.
Tuesday - Thursday
Visit the birthplace of Scotland's National Bard Robert Burns in the beautiful village of Alloway. See the world's most important collection of Burns artefacts and works in the interactive museum and visit the humble cottage where he was born and raised, don't miss Alloway Auld Kirk and the Brig o' Doon, immortalised in Burns's poem Tam o' Shanter. Later continue our journey to take a guided tour of Dumfries House, part of the King's Foundation and one of Britain's most beautiful stately homes set in 2,000 acres of stunning estate. The 18th century house with an unrivalled collection of Chippendale furniture has something for everyone, enjoy refreshments before exploring the Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden, at 5-acres the walled garden is one of the biggest in Scotland.
Glasgow is our destination today, enjoy a 1hr guided tour of the magnificent Burrell Collection, discover medieval treasures including beautiful stained glass, over 200 tapestries ranking amongst the finest in the world, paintings by renowned French artists, one of the most significant holdings of Chinese art and much, much more all housed within a wonderful countryside setting, today also includes free time to enjoy the city and obtain lunch.
Today we take a scenic ferry journey across to the beautiful Isle of Arran, known as Scotland in miniature. When visitors think of Scotland, they conjure up images of mountains, castles, waterfalls, distilleries and stone circles, the Isle of Arran has every single one of these and much more to share. On the island we visit the grand baronial Brodick Castle teeming with history and surrounded by mountains, Brodick is every inch the quintessential island castle. Wander through formal gardens on the Silver Garden Trail and Plant Hunters' Walk, or venture further to discover ponds, waterfalls and woodland trails, where you may spot red squirrels

About the hotel | The Riverside Lodge Hotel is a modern hotel located on the outskirts of Irvine, a great base for exploring this wonderfully picturesque area. Set in its own ample grounds with extensive outside seating area, the hotel owns a Green Tourism Award. Guest bedrooms are spacious, comfortable, elegantly decorated, and well-equipped rooms for maximum rest and relaxation. Although the hotel doesnt have a lift there are 64 ground floor rooms that can be booked on request, the remaining rooms are on the 1st floor accessible by a staircase. Rooms are all shower over bath. There is one fully disabled access room that is bookable on request, as there is only one of this room type the room will be in high demand. |
