At leisure in Grantown with the following included excursions:
Morning at leisure. We spend the afternoon in Inverness with free time to explore its many attractions.
Today we head off on a return journey on the Strathspey Steam Railway from Aviemore, taking in glorious views of heather-clad moors, Caledonian forest and the Spey River. We have free time for lunch in Aviemore before heading south to the Highland Folk Museum, Britains first open-air museum. Here we can see how Highland people lived and worked from the 1700s through to the 1950s as we explore this mile long site, complete with a township at one end and a working croft at the other.
Today we visit Ballindalloch Castle. This sumptuous retreat is a joy to explore along with its beautifully maintained walled and rock gardens.
Full day excursion. We travel from Inverness Station by train to the Kyle of Lochalsh. As featured by Michael Palin in his series, Great Railway Journeys of the World. The route takes you through Strath Bran and the isolated little station at Achnasheen and to the head of Loch Carron passing Stromeferry, the one-time terminus of the line, before reaching the current terminus at the Kyle of Lochalsh. We rejoin our coach for the return journey to the hotel.
