Join us on a journey to Germany for our Black Forest Chrysanthemums Autumn Festival tour.  From our 4-star hotel on the western edge of the Black Forest, visit the picturesque village of Larh to celebrate the arrival of Autumn with a festival of intense oranges, yellows and reds! Decorated with more than 10,000 chrysanthemums, worked into fascinating and creative arrangements, the pretty German village becomes a vibrant sea of colour. Established in 1997, the annual Chrysanthemum Festival in Lahr is continually growing in popularity, marvel at the thousands of blooms and beautiful flower arrangements decorating houses, cars and flowerbeds alike. See beautiful flower archways and huge structures on floats as you take a guided walk of the festival. Experience more of the Black Forest with a scenic drive to stop on the banks of Lake Titisee, take in the magnificent views before visits to the beautiful lakeside resort of Titisee-Neustadt and Triberg, famous for its wood carving shops and wonderful cuckoo clocks. Drive to the most northerly region of Switzerland to experience the drama and beauty of the magnificent Rhine Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in Europe.  Visit Schaffhausen, the prettiest town in Switzerland where houses in the Old Town are richly decorated with oriel windows and lavishly painted facades.

IMPORTANT PASSENGER NOTES:

·        A valid passport is essential for this holiday, at going to print in October 2026 the only travel documents passengers need if they are travelling to the EU will be valid passport issued less than 10 years before your expected departure date from the UK with at least 3 months remaining on your expected return date from the EU.

·        This holiday has overnight ferries with no porterage.  Please pack an overnight bag for the stay on the overnight ferry ensuring you have your essentials including medication and valuables as your main case with remain on the coach.

·        Please be advised that a certain level of mobility is required on this holiday for it to be enjoyable, although not too strenuous a certain fitness level for walking is needed for the guided walking tour, please note there is also no porterage at the Mainstay hotel, the driver is there to assist.

 

N.B ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is not currently operational.  Introduction has been delayed; the European Union has postponed its rollout indefinitely and removed all target dates from its official pages.  If this changes and you are booked on this holiday you will be notified by Ava Travel so that you can make the necessary arrangements to apply.  Please note an ETIAS application will carry a cost that is not included in the cost of your holiday.  It is the passenger responsibility to ensure they have all the correct, valid travel documents needed for this holiday. 

Itinerary:

Thursday
Depart Leyland at 14:00 for the journey to Hull and our overnight P&O ferry crossing to Rotterdam where dinner will be taken on board, enjoy onboard entertainment before retiring to you cabin for the evening.

Friday
Wake up in Rotterdam, following breakfast onboard, re-join the coach to disembark, continue our journey through Holland into Germany to our hotel in Gengenbach with a suitable lunch stop en-route.

Saturday - Monday

Today we drive south into the most northerly region of Switzerland, here we will experience the magnificence and beauty of the Rhine Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in Europe, continue our journey to nearby medieval Schaffhausen with time to explore this picturesque town at leisure, known as the prettiest town in Switzerland.

Travel to Larh to discover its historic centre and its thousands of Chrysanthemum arrangements in autumnal colours with a guided walk of the festival included. The rest of the day will be spent at leisure in the resort with time to visit Gengenbach Old Town, relax at the hotel or talk a scenic walk.

Today we head into the Black Forest, the perfect introductory tour of the area, the setting for many a Grimms Fairytale, where villages full of half-timbered houses dot the landscape. Visit the north shore of Lake Titisee, one of Germany's prettiest lakes before exploring the town of Titisee-Neustadt itself. Continue our circular drive to Triberg, famous for its wood carving shops and wonderful cuckoo clocks with time to explore, perhaps visit the Black Forest Museum or the picturesque 17th Century church.

Tuesday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast for the return journey though Germany into Holland, continue to Rotterdam for our overnight P&O ferry crossing to Hull. Dinner will be taken on board, enjoy entertainment on the ferry before retiring to your cabin for the evening.

Wednesday
Wake up back in the UK, following breakfast re-join the coach to disembark and continue our journey home.

About the hotel

The Schwarzwaldhotel in Gengenbach is located on the banks of the River Kinzig, just a short walk from historic Gengenbach’s centre.  From the hotel you can discover Gengenbach’s romantic old quarter and take long hikes in the Black Forest countryside.  Guest bedrooms are spacious and classically decorated, comfortable rooms, a lovely place to relax following a busy day exploring. Please note there is no porterage at the hotel during our holiday dates.
