Tuesday
This morning, we visit Stansted Park House and Gardens. Located between Chichester and Portsmouth and part of the South Downs National Park, Stansted Park spans 1,800 acres of remarkable, landscaped parkland and ancient forest. Today, visitors can enjoy seasonal tours of this splendid mansion, join us on an Upstairs, Downstairs tour to explore the lavish State Rooms of the Earls of Bessborough and walk through fully furnished, extensive servants' quarters. The public have access to the walled garden, which features a tearoom, farm shop, garden centre, maze, and miniature railway. The grounds also offer delightful country walks through the woods and along the impressive avenues of parkland. Afterward, we will return to the hotel for some leisure time.
Wednesday
We begin our day with a visit to Hinton Ampner House and its exquisite gardens. This elegant manor, beautifully integrated into the surrounding landscape, was lovingly reconstructed by Ralph Dutton after a devastating fire in 1960. Inside, you'll find well-proportioned rooms showcasing his remarkable collection of ceramics and art, with each window offering stunning views of the serene countryside. As you explore the meticulously manicured lawns and avenues of sculpted topiary, you'll be enchanted by the fragrant roses and breathtaking vistas of the South Downs. In the afternoon, we journey to the historic city of Winchester, England's ancient capital. Here, the magnificent medieval cathedral features the 17th-century Morley Library and the revered Winchester Bible. The Great Hall, a remnant of Winchester Castle, and the charming City Mill add to the city's rich history. Stroll through delightful gardens and parks, or wander the vibrant streets lined with unique shops, quaint cafés, and inviting restaurants.
Thursday
This morning, we begin our journey at the captivating Mottisfont House & Gardens, rich in history and beauty. Inside, we encounter the impressive 800-year-old vaulted cellarium and the stunning drawing room by Rex Whistler, both inviting us to appreciate their artistry. Be sure to visit the gallery, where dynamic exhibitions change throughout the year, alongside a permanent collection of 20th-century art. Garden lovers will enjoy the meticulously designed grounds, showcasing everything from vibrant colourful blooms to an enchanting winter garden. In the afternoon, we head to Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, home to a remarkable plant collection established in 1953 by the distinguished Sir Harold Hillier. Spanning 180 acres, this garden features both formal and informal landscapes, offering something wonderful to inspire visitors at any time of year.
