Join us as we cruise overnight from Aberdeen to the edge of the Arctic Circle, 130 miles north of the Scottish Mainland for our Shetland, Island of the Vikings tour.  Spring is a wonderful time to visit as the islands burst into life after their winter sleep, the days get longer, and the temperatures rise.  Seabirds return to cliff breeding grounds including the Shetland Puffins, Skylarks and oystercatchers welcome you with musical birdsong and beautiful wildflowers add vibrant colour to the magical, wild landscape.  Watch out for the native Shetland pony foals and the wonderful array of sea mammals that can be spotted from the Shetland coastline including otters, seals, orcas, humpback whales and Risso’s dolphins.  Take scenic drives of the Northern Isles of Yell, and Unst the most northerly island in the British Isles with Viking connections as well and North, South and West Mainland Shetland with an onboard guide over three days to enhance our visit. Itinerary:

Wednesday
Depart Leyland at 06.30hrs for our journey to Aberdeen to board the overnight Northlink Ferry sailing to Lerwick on Shetland with dinner onboard before retiring to your comfortable en-suite cabin.

Thursday
Following breakfast onboard the ferry disembark in Shetland feeling rested and refreshed ready to meet our experienced guide who will join us onboard the coach for a scenic coastal on a tour of South and West Mainland Shetland. Journey towards Sumburgh Head RSPB, stopping at probably the best beach on Shetland - St Ninians, linked to mainland Shetland by a sandy causeway. View cliff scenery, golden beaches and seabird colonies. Followed by a visit to Viking Jarlsof archaeological site, one of Europe's largest and most complex sites spanning 5,000 years. Entry is included to the Croft House Museum; after allowing time for lunch continue to have a photo stop to see native Shetland Ponies in the Tingwall Valley before arriving in Scalloway, the former capital of Shetland with its 15th century castle dominating the skyline. Entry into the museum displaying local island exhibitions' history and folklore. Check into the Shetland Hotel on Shetland's Mainland at 18.00hrs


Friday
This morning, we meet our guide who will join us onboard the coach for a scenic tour of the Northern Isles of Yell and Unst with a Shetland light lunch provided. Our excursion takes us on a short ferry crossing across to the island of Yell with entry to the Old Haa Museum, Cullivoe, filled with unusual artefacts from the lives of the islanders. Board another short ferry across to the island of Unst, with many magnificent beaches and home to the RAF for decades. See Muckle Flugga the most northern tip of the UK, then Skidbladner, a replica Viking Longship.


Saturday
Check out of the hotel following a leisurely breakfast, join our guide on a tour of the North Mainland, journey to Voe and Brae and the 'Drongs', a spectacular series of sea stacks, allowing time for lunch before we take a guided tour of Shetland Jewellery Nordic Workshop. Head to Lerwick to bid farewell to our Shetland guide, enjoy free time before boarding the overnight ferry to Aberdeen on the Scottish mainland with dinner onboard before retiring to your comfortable en-suite cabin.

Sunday
Arrive in Aberdeen rested following our overnight ferry from Shetland, disembark following breakfast as we journey towards or overnight hotel, The Stirling Highland. Before checking in at our hotel enjoy a couple of hours exploring Aberdeen before taking a scenic drive along the A92 coast road to enjoy a lunch stop in Arbroath - famous for Arbroath Smokies, allowing time to explore and obtain lunch, depart Arbroath at 14.00hrs to continue to the Stirling Highland Hotel, home for our last night.

Monday
Check out of our overnight hotel following breakfast for our journey home with a suitable lunch stop en-route.

Important note: Passengers may wish to take an overnight bag for the ferry both ways and for the Stirling Highland Hotel as there is no porterage, please ensure you have all your essentials and any medication with you.
