Thursday
On landing in Shetland this morning, we enjoy breakfast onboard, disembark feeling rested and refreshed ready to meet our experienced guide who will join us onboard the coach for a scenic tour of the Northern Isles of Yell and Unst with a Shetland light lunch provided. Our excursion takes us to board the short ferry crossing to the island of Yell with entry to the Old Haa Museum, Cullivoe, filled with unusual artefacts from the lives of the islanders. Board another short ferry across to the island of Unst, with many magnificent beaches and home to the RAF for decades. See Muckle Flugga the most northern tip of the UK, then Skidbladner, a replica Viking Longship. Check into the Shetland Hotel in Lerwick at 18.00hrs.
Friday
Today's coastal excursion with our guide onboard takes us on a tour of South and West Mainland Shetland. Journey towards Sumburgh Head RSPB, stopping at probably the best beach on Shetland - St Ninians, linked to mainland Shetland by a sandy causeway. View cliff scenery, golden beaches and seabird colonies. Followed by a visit to Viking Jarlsof archaeological site, one of Europe's largest and most complex sites spanning 5,000 years. Entry is included to the Croft House Museum; after allowing time for lunch, we have a photo stop to see native Shetland Ponies in the Tingwall Valley before arriving in Scalloway, the former capital of Shetland with its 15th century castle dominating the skyline. Entry is included to the museum displaying local island exhibitions' history and folklore.
Saturday
Check out of the hotel following a leisurely breakfast, join our guide on a tour of the North Mainland, journey to Voe and Brae and the 'Drongs', a spectacular series of sea stacks, allowing time for lunch before we take a guided tour of Shetland Jewellery Nordic Workshop.
