Learn about the English grape harvest and traditional methods of making English sparkling wine on a visit to the Chapel Down Winery concluding with a tutored wine-tasting of their award-winning range of sparkling and still wines. Itinerary
Tuesday
Depart Leyland at 08.00hrs for our journey to Kent with a lunch stop in Royal Leamington Spa en-route.
Wednesday
Today's excursion takes us to Leeds Castle, once home to no less than seven historic queens and over 900 years of history to uncover. Take in the glorious scenery as the magnificent colours turn autumnal and admire the seasonal blooms as you wander through the gardens and parkland. Enjoy a cream tea before returning to the hotel mid-afternoon for time to relax and enjoy the hotel's facilities before our evening meal.
Thursday
Today's excursion takes us to the Kent coast with a visit to beautiful seaside town of Ramsgate with its lovely harbour, cafes and bars allowing time to explore and obtain lunch before visiting the Ramsgate Tunnels for a guided underground tour. (Please ensure you have a coat and sensible footwear).
Friday
Today enjoys a visit to Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Vita Sackville-West, the poet and writer, began transforming Sissinghurst Castle in the 1930s with her diplomat and author husband, Harold Nicolson. Harold's architectural planning of the garden rooms, and the colourful, abundant planting in the gardens by Vita, reflect the romance and intimacy of her poems and writings. Sissinghurst Castle Garden was the backdrop for a diverse history; from the astonishing time as a prison in the 1700s, to being a home to the women’s land army. It was also a family home to some fascinating people who lived here or came to stay. Mid-afternoon re-join the coach as we travel to nearby Chapel Down Winery for a tour of the vineyard and tasting with a stop in Tenterden, the 'Jewel of the Weald' to conclude our day.
Saturday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast for the return journey home with a lunch stop at Bicester Village en-route.
