Immerse yourself on a full day guided tour of the Somme Battlefields, discover the rebuilt church in Albert, home of the famous Madonna statue who was believed to foretell the war’s outcome. Between Amiens and Albert lie many of the most notorious battlefields, memorials, and cemeteries of The Battle of the Somme. Visit Wellington Quarry, an immersive experience at a depth of 20 meters under the cobblestones of Arras, here from November 1916, the British prepared for the Spring offensive of 1917, the greatest surprise attack of the First World War. Cross over the Belgium border as we take a guided tour of the 14-18 Battlefields route of Belgium and France and the Ypres Salient Battlefield Region. Be moved by the stories of yesteryear on a poignant visit to Flanders Field Museum and enjoy a meal at a local restaurant in Ypres before attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate as buglers play their simple but moving tribute to the memory of the soldiers who fought and died in WW1. An extremely rewarding and moving tour with knowledgeable guides whose passion bring history the Great War to life.

Itinerary
Monday
Depart Leyland at 06.00hrs for our journey to Dover with a suitable lunch stop en-route, mid-afternoon board a DFDS ferry for the short crossing to Calais with a meal included onboard. Re-join the coach as we disembark and continue our journey to the hotel.
Tuesday - Wednesday
Free time at the hotel with the following excursions:
Full day - guided tour of the Somme Battlefields with admission to Wellington Quarry, Arras.
Full day - Battlefields guided tour of the 14-18 Route, Ypres, includes admission to Flanders Field Museum and meal at a local restaurant in Ypres before the opportunity to attend the Last Poast Ceremony at Ypres Menin Gate at 20.00hrs, re-join the coach afterwards for our return to our hotel.
Thursday
Check out of our hotel following a leisurely breakfast for our return journey to Calais with a suitable lunch stop en-route, mid-afternoon board a DFDS ferry for the short crossing to Dover with a meal included onboard. Re-join the coach as we disembark and continue our journey home.
