THE HOTEL HAS A LIFT.
Depart Leyland at 0930 for the journey Cairnryan and the 1530 ferry to Belfast. Later continue to our hotel in Coleraine to arrive in time for evening dinner.
Today we board a train and travel from Coleraine to Derry for a journey that is described by Michael Palin as being ‘one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world’. The track runs alongside the sands so we will have spectacular views of one of the most unspoilt beaches in Ireland. On the opposite side, we pass the maritime cliffs of Downhill and the impressive Binevenagh Mountain. When we arrive in Derry, we will meet our informative guide for a 2 hour walking tour. We can then have lunch at leisure and enjoy free time to visit the Tower Museum nestled within the city’s historic walls or the Guildhall. We then board our
coach and return to our hotel for dinner.
Today, we experience stunning scenery during our spectacular drive along the Antrim Coast to the village of Bushmills where we visit the Old Bushmills Distillery, the oldest whiskey producer in Ireland. Here we
enjoy an informative guided tour showing the processes used to manufacture the whiskey (but please note that there are numerous steps and stairs and the tour may not be suitable for people with restricted mobility). We then have free time for lunch at Bushmills. In the afternoon, we visit the extraordinary Giant’s Causeway, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland.
This morning we make our way to one of Northern Ireland’s oldest and most beautiful estates, Glenarm Castle, the ancestral home of the McDonnells, Earls
of Antrim. The housekeeper and butler will take us
on a private guided tour of the private home of
Lord and Lady Dunluce, giving us an insight into the
fascinating history and life in the castle. We then
have time to explore the Walled Garden, in its
incomparable setting by the sea.
Check out of our hotel following breakfast for the return journey to Leyland via the 1130 Belfast to Cairnryan ferry.
