Itinerary:
Thursday
Depart Leyland at 08.00hrs for our journey to Alnwick with a lunch stop in historic Hexham en-route. Depart Hexham at 13.30hrs to continue our journey to the White Swan.
Friday
Following breakfast today's excursion takes us to the north of Northumberland across the causeway to Holy Island (weather permitting), home of the mysterious Lindisfarne Castle, followed by visits to Bamburgh with its pristine beach, drifting sand dunes, cosy eateries tucked away on street corners, and a magnificent castle view everywhere you turn and the pretty harbour town of Seahouses.
Saturday
Free day in Alnwick to relax at the hotel and explore the town. Today is market day, browse the market for festive treats or shop in the town's independent stores for that special gift. When hunger strikes Alnwick has something to suit the taste buds of every visitor, ranging from family-friendly cafes and budget-friendly restaurants to romantic meals for two. Perhaps visit quirky Barter Books, occupying a magnificent, Victorian railway station, a delight for any literary enthusiast, the shop offers features including welcoming open fires in the Winter, a model railway which links between the book columns of the central room, along with poetry lines and a whole huge room lined with over forty glass cases containing many of the more interesting antiquarian books. Tonight we enjoy a Christmas themed dinner with Christmas Crackers.
Sunday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast, before we head home visit Raby Castle in all its festive finery. Embrace the sights, smells and sounds of Christmas as you step inside the magnificent Raby Castle, beautifully dressed for the magical season with an abundance of Christmas trees. Visitors can head 'downstairs' to see how the household staff marked Christmas with celebrations of their own. Raby is truly magical during the winter months as the frost glistens on the estate and deer park, the perfect festive treat to conclude your holiday. Depart Raby castle at 15.00hrs to continue our journey home.
