Itinerary:
Monday
Depart from Leyland at 9.00am for our journey to Coleford with a lunch stop at the National Arboretum en-route, on arrival at the hotel receive a warm welcome with fruit juice while your case is taken to your room.
Tuesday
Today discover the history and heritage of Gloucester with free time to explore and time to obtain lunch. Perhaps visit the magnificent cathedral dating back to 1089, one of the most beautiful cathedrals in England, parts may seem familiar having been used as backdrops for popular productions Harry Potter and Mary Queen of Scots or explore Gloucester docks, the most inland port in the UK with 15 Victorian Warehouses, all now listed buildings a great area for museums, food, drink and retail opportunities. Visit one of the many Gloucester Museums including the Museum of Gloucester, Beatric Potter's House of the Tale of Gloucester or the National Waterways Museum. Whatever your interests are, Gloucester's varied offering will keep you busy.
Wednesday
This morning, we travel the short distance over the border into Wales to visit Chepstow Castle, a major medieval powerhouse, although in Wales the fortress was originally built to protect the English from the Welsh. Following the visit enjoy free time to explore Chepstow, a lively town known as the 'Gateway to Wales', wander smart pedestrian areas decorated with stone walls and sculptures inspired by local legends. In the afternoon enjoy a steam train journey from Norchard with Dean Forest Railway sit back relax and enjoy the ride through beautiful countryside and woodland.
Thursday
This morning journey back into Wales to visit Tintern Abbey, in 1536 during King Henry Viii's English Reformation Tintern surrendered in the first round of the dissolution of the monasteries and the great abbey began slowly to turn into the majestic ruin we see today, a much-loved national icon. This afternoon we head to Symonds Yat to take a river cruise on the River Wye, famous for river scenery as the boat winds its way through Symonds Yat Gorge with amazing commentary full of local facts.

Check out of our hotel following breakfast for the return journey home with a lunch stop in historic Shrewsbury en-route.

| About the hotel | The Bells Hotel and Country Club is situated in the unspoilt Royal Forest of Dean in the picturesque market town of Coleford. Guest bedrooms are individually designed and comfortable for a good nights rest. There is no lift at this hotel however they do have 35 bedrooms on the ground floor (on request and subject to availability). The bedroom block along with the hair salon and beauty treatment rooms is approx. a 25 yard outside walk from the clubhouse, which is home to bar, lounge and restaurant. The hotel offers treatments and there is a hairdressing salon (these must be booked and paid for locally by the customer). |
