Take scenic drives through rural Norfolk to visit charming historic towns, including the county town and cathedral city Norwich. For horse racing and history fans we’ve included a visit to the National Horse Racing Centre at Newmarket, the wonderful 5-acre site comprising 3 attractions in one, explore the Trainer’s House and King’s Yard Galleries housing the museum, discover the Packard Galleries of British Sporting Art in the beautiful historic Palace House which is the last remaining part of Charles II’s sporting palace and stables and meet former racehorses in the flagship home of the charity Retraining of Racehorses in the stunning Rothchild’s Yard, get up close to the heroes of ‘The Sport of Kings’, they’re very friendly and love a pat.

Itinerary:
Monday
Depart Leyland at 08.00hrs for our journey to the Wensum Valley Hotel with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
Tuesday
Today's excursion takes us to the city of Norwich where the day is free for you to explore at leisure. Take in the sights, enjoy a spot of retail therapy or relax in a cosy café and watch the world go by. Perhaps visit Norwich Cathedral or the cobbled the cobbled Elm Hill area, both well worth a visit. Re-join the coach at 14.30hrs to return to the hotel to relax and enjoy the leisure facilities before dinner.
Wednesday
This morning, we journey west to the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, famous for it's Abbey Gardens and the Angel Hotel where Charles Dickens had Mrs Pickwick stay. Today is market day, enjoy free time to browse the stalls, perhaps pick something up to enjoy as a picnic this afternoon and explore the town departing at 12.30pm. In the afternoon visit Newmarket, home of horseracing, join us on a visit to the National Horseracing Centre, a 5-acre site in the centre of Newmarket where you'll learn about the history of 'The Sport of Kings'. Meet in Rothchild's Yard at 1.30pm if you wish to join the 'Behind the Scenes' tour where you'll meet ex-racehorses.
Thursday
Today begins with a drive through rural Norfolk countryside to the delightful town of Holt. This charmingly old-fashioned Georgian town features impeccable colour washed houses, antique and picture galleries and the 13th century church of St Andrew. Later head to the charming market town of Swaffham which sits at the very northern point of the Brecks, a tranquil area of outstanding beauty which stretches across Norfolk and Suffolk. This historic town was once home of the Swabians who may have settled with the Angles and Saxons also boasts connections with Howard Carter, the famous Egyptologist who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Friday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast for the return journey home with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
