Take three wonderful rail journeys through spectacular scenery, follow the Cumbrian coastline to enjoy stunning sea views, steam into the foothills of the Lake District National Park on the L’al Ratty steam train and travel on the famous Settle to Carlisle line, one of the most spectacular train journeys in the whole of England. Sit back, relax, and take a scenic drive as we journey back to AD122 following a section of the path of Hadrian’s Wall with a stop at The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre. Itinerary
Monday
Depart Leyland at 09.00hrs for our journey to Carlisle, on arrival we allow time in the city to explore and have lunch before re-joining the coach to check in at the hotel, arrive to welcome tea/coffee and biscuits while your bag is taken to the room.
Tuesday
This morning following breakfast our excursion heads to Longtown with a drive along Liddesdale as we make our way to the picturesque Keilder Water and Forest Park. Here we take a break at the Visitor Centre before continuing to Bellingham and Hexham, dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market square. This afternoon we return along the path of Hadrian's Wall, sit back, relax and take a journey back to AD122 through some of the country's most spectacular landscapes, with a stop at The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre, featuring exhibitions, a rooftop walk, shop and café.
Wednesday
This morning our first train journey of the day starts in Carlisle where we follow the line of the Cumbrian coastline through Maryport and Whitehaven, enjoy stunning sea views as they stay with us until Ravenglass. Here we join the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, fondly known as the L'al Ratty steam train, journey from the coast to the foothills of England's highest mountains. Experience breathtaking views over seven miles of steam in the Lake District National Park.
Thursday
Today we travel into the Yorkshire Dales to the rural market town of Hawes, one of England's highest where we will have time to explore, continue our journey via the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct with a short stop for a photo opportunity before continuing to Settle where we take the most spectacular train journey on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway, experience towering viaducts, bridges, long deep tunnels and lovingly kept station gardens, making this one of the best loved lines in the country. Travel along the whole line through majestic scenery back to our base in Carlisle.
Friday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast for our return journey with a lunch stop in Kendal en-route allowing time to explore this beautiful vibrant Cumbrian town and obtain lunch before continuing our journey home.
