Monday
Depart Leyland at 08.30hrs for our journey to Northumberland with a lunch stop in the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site city of Durham, depart Durham at 15.00hrs, continue our journey to Slaley Hall where you'll receive a warm North East welcome while your case is taken to your room.
Tuesday - Thursday
Following breakfast our guide will meet us for today's excursion, enjoy the spectacular scenery of the rugged countryside around Hadrian's Wall, background to the wonderful UNESCO World Heritage Site which formed Rome's Northern Frontier almost two thousand years ago. The towns and villages of the area are filled character and charm but hide a history of a troubled and bloody past. Discover the thriving market town of Hexham rich in history and culture. Nestled between the beauty of the Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape Hexham grew around the magnificent Abbey first built in 674ad.
Following breakfast our guide will meet us for today's excursion. Enjoy England's most peaceful and tranquil place an area of great beauty. From Morpeth and the story of gardener William Turner, into Rothbury in the Northumberland National Park to visit Cragside House and Estate nestled amid towering trees. Discover the former home of Lord Armstrong, the 19th Century Industrial genius, Britain's original smart home being the first in the world lit by hydroelectricity, wander grand fantasy garden landscapes a gardener's delight. Continue to Wallington Hall, beautiful Country House and Estate of the Trevelyan family, home to wonderful ceramics and book collections and Central Hall showcasing the story of Northumberland, wander a beautiful colourful garden planted for nature
Morning visit to the historic town of Bishop Auckland, uncover stories of the Prince Bishops at Auckland Castle, Gardens and the Faith Museum, explore one of the best-preserved bishops palaces in Europe, wander beautiful gardens surrounding the palace and visit the architecturally stunning yet simple Faith Museum, the first museum to explore the history of faith in Britain, with time to obtain lunch depart Bishop Auckland at 14.00hrs to return to Slaley Hall for time to relax and perhaps use the leisure facilities.
Friday
Check out of our hotel following a leisurely breakfast for our journey home with a lunch stop at Barnard Castle en-route. Depart Barnard Castle at 14.00hrs to continue our journey home.
