Just 28miles off the Cornish coast, the Isles of Scilly are a unique archipelago, a sub-tropical haven for a variety of wildlife and our itinerary allows plenty of time to enjoy your beautiful surroundings and the nature that abounds. With overnight stays at the Holiday Inn Express Bodmin either side of our stay on St Mary’s this tour offers a wonderful experience to get away from it all, totally chill and relax surrounded by wonderful island scenery and nature, a holiday to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. To enhance this already wonderful tour we have added a gentle introductory walking tour of St Marys with a knowledgeable guide and a ferry over to the nearby island of Tresco with a visit to Tresco Abbey Gardens. Sunday
Depart Leyland at 08.00hrs for our journey to Cornwall and our overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Express Bodmin with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
N.B you may wish to take an overnight bag with essentials and medication for your overnight hotel
Monday
This morning following a very early breakfast travel to Penzance, our passengers and driver will board the 09.15am ferry to St Mary's as foot passengers to make the journey to the Scilly Isles. Sit back, relax, enjoy the views and watch out for local wildlife on this wonderful journey. On arrival in St Marys, we have a 5-minute walk from the harbour to the Bell Rock Hotel while our luggage is transferred by a local operator to the hotel for us. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure before our evening meal.
IMPORTANT NOTE: as there are no tourist coaches allowed on the island the driver will check passengers in with their luggage at the ferry terminal then leave to park the coach about 20mins away, please do NOT leave any valuables or anything essential on the coach, we will not be able to retrieve it once the driver has left the ferry terminal to park, he/she will have limited time to get back and meet passengers to board the ferry, please ensure you have everything you need for your stay on the Isles of Scilly, Ava Travel will not be responsible for anything left on the coach.
Tuesday - Thursday
Free time on the island of St Mary with the following excursions:
Following breakfast enjoy a gentle introductory guided walking of St Mary's with a local guide. The rest of the day can be spent at leisure relaxing with a book, perhaps take a walk along the beach, wild swimming for the brave or making use of the hotels pool or perhaps take a walk over to The Old Town Inn, St Mary's Premier Arts and Music Venue, see what's on while you here.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The walking route for the guided introductory walking tour included in this tour is fairly easy however there is a steep hill at the start of the walk, walking surfaces are uneven in places around the Garrison, sensible footwear and clothing must be worn, this isn't suitable for wheelchairs or anyone with a walking aid. The guide will take it nice and slow; you won't be rushed and there will be various stops along the way to point things of interest out as you go up hill, unfortunately there isn't a walk on St Mary's where you don't go up hill.
Spend the day at leisure exploring Hugh Town, the island's capital, situated between the two beaches, home to a variety of shops, arts and craft galleries, museum and restaurants. Perhaps enjoy a stroll along the Garrison Walls high above the town, sit back and relax on Porthcressa and Town Beach or visit one of the local inns.
Join us for a boat trip to The Island of Tresco, with a population of just 165 people, Tresco's main inhabitants are the birds, the other island gem is The Abbey Garden home to 20,000 exotic species of plants, a variety of which can't be grown anywhere else in Britain, our holiday price includes admission and return crossing to Tresco.
Friday
Sadly, it's time to pack your book and leave the peace and tranquillity of the island behind, but not before enjoying the island one last time, check out of our island haven following breakfast, we do have to check out of the hotel by 10.00am, but are welcome to use the hotels facilities until our actual departure time from the island, why not go for a swim, take a last walk along the nature trails and the beach, visit the museum or iconic Mermaid Inn, less than a 10min walk from the Bell Rock Hotel, at the entrance to the harbour serving wonderful dishes from sea and land from 12noon (but inn opens at 11.00am). Our luggage will be transferred by a local operator from the hotel to the ferry. Board the 2pm Isle of Scilly Steamship for our return to Penzance. Back on the mainland you'll have a short wait while our driver collects the coach, continue our journey to check in to our overnight hotel, the Holiday In Express Bodmin in time to enjoy a light supper.
Saturday
Check out of our overnight hotel following breakfast for the return journey home with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
