Itinerary:
Monday
Depart Leyland at 08.30hrs for our journey to Harrogate with a lunch stop in the picturesque town of Grassington the beating heart of the Yorkshire Dales, home to the fictional market town of Darrowby in the new series of All Creatures Great and Small, allowing time to explore and obtain lunch. Depart Grassington at 14.30hrs.
Tuesday
Today our excursion takes us to magnificent Castle Howard and Gardens, magnificent home of the Howard family for over 300 years, wonderful filming location for Brideshead Revisited, Victoria and Bridgerton amongst many others. Admire iconic architecture as you wander through beautiful interiors of the house, head to the gardens bursting with vibrant colour and heady fragrance pf pretty summer blooms, wander parkland filled with woodland walks, lakes, fountains and a monumental landscape offering breathtaking views over the Howardian Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Wednesday
Morning visit to nearby Knaresborough, a pretty town perched on cliffs above the River Nidd offering an idyllic riverside setting with medieval streets and stone staircases weaving there way up and down hill and magnificent views of the iconic railway viaduct. Today is market day with time to explore and obtain lunch, the town sits at the base of the cliff and has a delightful promenade that traps the sun in summer, a pleasant place to take a stroll or perhaps enjoy an ice cream and watch the boats. Depart at 13.30hrs, return to the hotel to relax or enjoy free time in Harrogate.
Thursday
Today our excursion takes us to Ripon for a historic day out at the Ripon Museums. Knowledgeable and entertaining guides will take you on a journey to see how people lived, worked and slept in the Workhouse, discover stories of the accused and what happened to them following sentencing and learn of the Liberty of Ripon and the history of policing in Yorkshire and beyond, this great day out will allow you to find out about the buildings themselves as well as what went on inside with tea/coffee and homemade scone included. Includes free time in Ripon if time allows.
Friday
Check out of our hotel following a leisurely breakfast, before we head home spend free time in our host town Harrogate with time to explore to elegant Victorian spa town, perhaps do some shopping in a wonderful mix of high end shops, or visit one of the towns many cosy cafes and tearooms including the famous Bettys (booking beforehand advisable), take a stroll in the Stray or explore The Pump Room Museum where Victorians used to flock to take to the waters provided by the strongest sulphur wells in Europe, the choice is yours. Depart Harrogate at 13.30hrs for our return journey home.
