Itinerary:
Sunday
Depart Leyland at 09.30am for our journey to Alnwick with a lunch stop in Hexham en-route. Depart Hexham at 14.30hrs to continue our journey to the White Swan, receive a warm North East welcome while your case is taken to your room.
Monday
Morning journey along the coast, visit Holy Island and award-winning Bamburgh Castle, enjoy exhilarating sea views as you discover 3,000 years of history in the real Last Kingdom of Bebbanburg, with free time to explore Bamburgh.
Tuesday
Today we head back along the coast to visit the popular fishing village of Seahouses, experience local wildlife, pretty beaches and fresh fish and chips, perhaps take a scenic stroll along the harbour before departing at 13.00hrs. This afternoon we journey inland through beautiful Northumbrian countryside via Wooller, continue to Rothbury at the edge of Northumberland's spectacular National Park, known as the 'Gateway to the Cheviot's', with a stop to explore the picturesque town with bustling High Street complete with thriving shops, pubs and tea rooms.
Wednesday
Uncover the story of one of Britain's most iconic Castles on a visit to the magnificent Alnwick Castle and Gardens, the Castle will already be familiar to some of you as it featured in as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter films and as a filming location for ITV's Downton Abbey. Followed by free time to explore our host town, historic Alnwick, perhaps visit Barter Books and its fabulous café or the towns eclectic mix of shops, pubs and eateries, if you fancy pick up something delicious for a picnic lunch tomorrow before heading back to the hotel to relax.
Thursday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast for the return journey home with a visit to Ushaw Historic House, Chapels and Gardens en-route. Over 200 years ago Ushaw was born in secret as a religious community for training priests. Wander this wonderful North East hidden gem to uncover the secret story of rich history and heritage behind the façade of the historic house on a guided tour, explore breathtaking Pugin designed chapels and wander relaxing gardens. Lunch can be obtained from the café or perhaps have a picnic in the magnificent grounds, depart at 14.00hrs continue our journey home.
