This wonderful tour shows you the best of what Northumberland coastline has to offer, enjoy views of breath-taking beauty that will leave you mesmerized with visits to Holy Island and historic coastal towns of Bamburgh and Seahouses. Saturday is market day in our host town Alnwick’s historic market square, browse stalls laden with goodies and explore the picturesque market town overlooked by its imposing castle. Our tour includes a visit to the compact cathedral city of Durham. Don’t miss out on a visit to beautiful ancient kingdom of Northumbria.

Itinerary:
Friday
Depart Leyland at 09.00hrs for our journey to Alnwick with a lunch stop in historic Hexham en-route. Re-join the coach at 14.30hrs as we continue our journey to Alnwick
Saturday
Morning free in Alnwick, perhaps browse the market, visit the castle or explore Alnwick Gardens or Barter Books, the choice is yours, allowing time to explore and obtain lunch. At 13.00hrs join the coach for an afternoon excursion to the coast to visit Seahouses where a long history of fishing has made the popular village both beautiful and fascinating. The colourful village has a bustling harbour, a few shops and cafes and glorious beaches.
Sunday
Today's excursion takes us back to the coast to visit the tidal island known as Holy Island or Lindisfarne, in 635AD St Aidan came from Iona and chose to found his monastery on the island, the sacred island has been a place of pilgrimage since. This wonderful Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers amazing beaches and an abundance of wildlife. Perhaps walk from the village towards Lindisfarne Castle, see the harbour to your right, view the iconic upturned herring boats that are today used as storage huts. Visit the isolated, captivating ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, walk in the footsteps of pilgrims and Vikings who were drawn to this powerhouse of Northern Christianity. Visit the museum next to the ruins that reopened in 2023 following an extensive refurbishment along with new memorial stone to St Cuthbert in the priory grounds. Re-join the coach and head back along the causeway to continue our coastal journey to Bamburgh, the beautiful coastal town famous for its castle, allowing time to explore.
Monday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast, before heading home today's excursion takes us to the historic cathedral city of Durham, allowing time to explore and obtain lunch in one of the city's many wonderful eateries, perhaps explore Durham's UNESCO World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle, powerbase for the mighty Prince Bishops of Durham during the Medieval Period. Re-join the coach at 14.30hrs to continue our journey home.
