Itinerary:
Sunday
Depart Leyland at 09.00hrs for our journey to Alnwick with a lunch stop in historic Hexham en-route, departing at 14.30hrs continue our journey to the White Swan. Arrive to a warm welcome while your case is taken to your room.
Monday
This morning is free to explore the charms of Alnwick allowing time to obtain lunch, perhaps visit Barter Books, housed in Alnwick's grand Victorian station or Alnwick Castle, brimming with history and drama. In the afternoon join the coach for a visit to Ad Grefin. This new attraction showcases life at an Anglo-Saxon Royal Court that was in Wooler, complete with Great Hall with original artefacts. Following our visit to the museum we enjoy a guided tour and tasting at Ad Grefin Distillery. Barley used in distilling dates to Anglo-Saxon times; the distillery recreates a heritage whisky of this area.
Tuesday
Our journey today takes us to Seahouses, known to many as the 'Gateway to the Farne Islands', enjoy free time to explore at leisure. Discover the harbour, take a walk on the beach, browse a variety of stores including the National Trust and Farne gift stores or perhaps relax and have a bite to eat in one of the tea shops and cafes. At midday make your way to the harbour to take a 2-hour Farne Islands cruise. The wonderful boat trip offers a chance to see a variety of wildlife including puffins and grey seals as well as close views of the Grace Darling Lighthouse.
Wednesday
Today's excursion takes us back to the coast and across the causeway to Holy Island with time to explore, perhaps visit mysterious Lindisfarne Castle, Lindisfarne Priory or the Lifeboat Museum, discover the harbour or walk to Emmanuel Head to see the striking 'White Pyramid' structure and to take in the spectacular views enjoying Holy island's natural beauty. Back on the mainland we head along the coast to Bamburgh, perhaps visit the majestic castle or the Grace Darling Museum, take a stroll along the beach or maybe purchase delicacies from the towns award-winning shops or just sit back and relax in one of the traditional inns or delightful eateries.
Thursday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast, before we return home visit the historic cathedral city of Durham with time to explore and obtain lunch. Depart Durham at 14.00hrs to continue our journey home.
