Sunday
Depart Leyland at 10.00am for our journey to Scotland and our overnight hotel in Pitlochry with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
Monday
Check out of our overnight hotel following breakfast, travel to Gill's Bay to board the ferry to St Margarets Hope on South Ronaldsay, the nearest Orkney Island to mainland Scotland and the most picturesque village in the archipelago. Travel across the Isles of Burray, Glimps Holm and Lambs Holm. This wonderful road trip of stunning views takes you across iconic causeways. The route through South Ronaldsay and Burray encompasses the Churchill Barries and the small Orkney Islands of Glimps Holm and Lamb Holm, arriving at our destination on Orkney mainland, continue our journey to our home for the next 3 nights in Kirkwall. Take in the wonderful views from the hotel while your luggage is taken to your room.
Tuesday
This morning following breakfast we meet our local guide who will join us on the coach for a full day excursion of Orkney. Begin with a visit to one of Orkneys most loved attractions, The Italian Chapel on Lamb Holm, constructed by Italian Prisoners of War who were transported to Orkney to build the Churchill Barriers, amongst the prisoners in camp 60 was an artist Domenico Chiocchetti, he was given the task of transforming two Nissen huts, with the help of other prisoners into a chapel, their work can be seen here today as a lasting reminder of peace and hope. The Orkney's are rich with Neolithic sites across the islands, stops are made at the impressive Standing Stones of Stenness and Ring of Brodgar, before continuing to the highlight, Skara Brae. Built over 5000 years ago, this pre-historic village pre-dates Stonehenge.
Wednesday
Today you have a day of leisure to explore Kirkwall's many museums and art galleries as well as the busy harbour. Close by the hotel is the Orkney Distillery and Visitor Centre with the main shopping area located just behind. Perhaps visit the imposing St Magnus Cathedral which has been a place of worship on the island for over 8 centuries. Enjoy the Orkney Island capital with its busy historic centre brimming with character.
Thursday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast as we bid farewell to mainland Orkney and travel back across the causeways of the archipelago to St Margaret's Hope. Board the ferry back to Gill's Bay on the Scottish mainland and continue our journey to our overnight hotel in Newtonmore.
Friday
Check out of our overnight hotel following breakfast to continue our journey home with a suitable lunch stop en-route
