Experience the annual Amsterdam Light Festival on a winter canal cruise as the iconic canals are transformed into a magical wonderland showcasing dozens of unique light sculptures and projections created by artists from across the world, admire the artworks on the quays and in the water along the way. Head out of the city to visit Instagram worthy Zaanse-Schans for a wonderful, nostalgic experience, discover windmills surrounded by magnificent meadows, imagine the clatter of wooden clogs over cobblestones, encounter artisans as you freely wander this unique neighborhood filled with Dutch history on the River Zaan. Itinerary
Friday
Depart Leyland at 6.30am for our journey to dover to board our ferry to take us the short distance to Calais with a suitable lunch stop en-route. Arrive at our 4-star hotel to a warm welcome. Freshen up and head out to familiarise yourself with the area, as we are bed and breakfast board basis you have the freedom to eat where you fancy, the hotel does have its own restaurant serving international cuisine or you could head into the city centre, the metro station is just next door making it a convenient and quick 10mins journey into the centre.
Saturday
Today following a leisurely breakfast take a little time to relax at the hotel or explore the area before you join the coach at noon, head into Amsterdam for some free time to explore the city at leisure and have lunch. At 17.30hrs we meet our tour boat for a stunning cruise sailing around the canals of Amsterdam at night, taking in the breathtaking Light Extravaganza along the way, you will have free time after the cruise to explore and have an evening meal. Re-join the coach at 21.00hrs as we return to the hotel. For those of you who wish to stay in Amsterdam and make your own way back to the hotel just let your driver know your plans.
Sunday
Today following a leisurely breakfast, we head out of the city to Zannse- Schans a beautiful and unique neighbourhood full of windmills, handicraft shops and museums. Perhaps visit the warehouse where traditional clogs are made, be drawn in by the wonderful aroma of freshly baked cookies as you approach the bakery museum, don't miss out on the cheese factory, pewter foundry and of course the magnificent windmills, there's even a windmill museum you could visit, allowing time for lunch, mid- afternoon head back into Amsterdam for free time to explore allowing time for an early evening meal. Re-join the coach at 20.00hrs as we return to the hotel. For those of you who wish to stay in Amsterdam and make your own way back to the hotel just let your driver know your plans.
Monday
Check out of our hotel following breakfast as we journey back to France to board our ferry to take us on the short crossing back to Dover in the uk, re-join the coach as we disembark in Dover and continue our journey home, with suitable meal stops en-route.
