Visit the picture-postcard village of Chilham with its quintessentially English black and white houses, inns and village church and historic Rochester, a town cherished by Victorian novelist Charles Dickens packed with heritage gems waiting to be discovered, wander the magical Christmas Market in the Rochester Castle Gardens. Itinerary
Friday
Depart Leyland at 09.00am for our journey to Kent with a suitable lunch stop en-route. Arrive at Bridgewood Manor to a warm welcome with tea/coffee and biscuits while our luggage is taken care of, why not take a dip in the swimming pool before joining us for dinner.
Saturday
Following breakfast our excursion today takes us to the lovely picture postcard village of Chilham, situated on the former Pilgrims route to Canterbury, now known as the Northdowns Way, the many half-timbered houses in the square were part of the castle estate which along with the village has appeared as a filming location in many films and TV series throughout the years including the BBC adaptation of Jane Austins classic Emma, Marple and Poirot. Following a short visit continue to Canterbury where you will have free time to enjoy lunch and explore, perhaps visit the magnificent cathedral, a wonderful and special time of year to visit. The Christmas festivities are underway with the market now in full swing. Festive stalls line Whiterfriars, St Georges Street and Rose Lanes, display festive food, drinks, crafts, and gifts. Christmas is brought to the streets and the atmosphere is alive with twinkling lights and street entertainers. Depart Canterbury at 17.00hrs to return to the hotel.
Sunday
Following a leisurely breakfast check out of our hotel, before heading home we head to Rochester, much loved haunt of Charles Dickens, visit the Christmas Market set in the magnificent Rochester Castle Gardens, enjoy the fun of the fair and festive stalls surrounded by historic Rochester, take time to explore Rochester and find somewhere lovely for lunch, depart Rochester at 14.00hrs to continue our journey home.
