Carnvial Of Binche
Book NowJoin us as we head to Wallonia as the Belgium carnival calendar starts with a bang with one of the oldest, most unique folklore carnivals in the world. The historic walled city of Binche comes alive as it hosts this extraordinary extravaganza that is so unique it is recognized by UNESCO for its cultural significance. Virtually nothing has changed about the carnival across the centuries, the vibrant costumes, wax masks, wooden footwear, music, and rituals date back to pagan traditions setting the stage for a wonderful experience. If you are lucky enough you may catch one of the oranges thrown into the crowd during the parade on Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras by a Gille, bringing you luck for the rest of the year. Enjoy the finale atmosphere where all the characters of the carnival join in the main square surrounded by musicians, sparkling Bengal lights and fireworks that reflect shadows on the houses around the fairytale City Hall. Included in our tour are return overnight P&O ferry journeys, with onboard meals and cabins included, so sit back and relax and arrive refreshed. Dont miss out, book today and enjoy the unique, carnival atmosphere.

Itinerary
Saturday
Depart Leyland at 14:00pm for our journey to Hull where we will board our overnight ferry to take us on a mini cruise to Rotterdam, disembark the coach (we suggest taking an overnight bag so that your main case can be left on the coach, make sure you pack essentials, medication etc in your overnight bag as access to the coach throughout the crossing is prohibited). Dinner is provided onboard the ferry, before retiring to your cabin for the night.
Sunday
Following breakfast on-board the ferry, re-join the coach to continue our journey to Charleroi in Belgium with a suitable lunch stop en-route.
Monday
Following breakfast head to the walled city of Binche to join the shuttle bus to take us into the city. Join in the celebrations, today is all about the youth of Binche as they parade from café to café in their brightly coloured costumes and enjoy huge confetti battle in the city centre surrounded by music of the viola.
Tuesday
Today we have a morning of leisure in Charleroi, join the coach at 12.00 noon, travel to the shuttle bus to take us into the city. Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras is the most important and traditional day of the carnival. This is the only day the Gilles make an appearance, witness the parade of around 1000 men dressed in their colourful costumes, wax masks, wooden shoes, and drums, ladies in wonderful traditional costumes and children dressed as Harlequins, Pierrots or little Gilles making for a magnificent colourful display. Enjoy the magic of the finale where all the characters of the carnival join in the main square surrounded by musicians, sparkling Bengal lights and fireworks reflecting shadows on the houses around the fairytale City Hall. We have no evening meal at the hotel today so that we can benefit from the whole carnival experience, this gives you chance to sample some of the wonderful Belgium cuisine that Binche has to offer.
Wednesday
Check out of our hotel following a leisurely breakfast to begin our journey to board the evening ferry in Rotterdam with a suitable lunch stop en-route. Continue our journey to Rotterdam to check in at the port, (don't forget your overnight bag) enjoy an evening meal onboard before retiring to your cabin for the night.
Thursday
